I´d like to perform a parameterized optimization study using the thickness of a sheetmetal part as parameter. I know how to edit the thickness in the properties tab but cannot find out how to make it a parameter to be used in workbench/mechanical afterwards.
I found this hint here, but it does not seem to work under the sheetmetal tab...
Any other idea or suggestion? Thanks.

Hello Miguel,Â
Let me check and get back to you on this.

Thanks Devendra!
I am trying to compare results for various sheetmetal parts designs with different thicknesses and features (bends, beam-ribs, gussets,…) so any other suggestion/hint (e.g. better use solid-bodies or surface-bodies extracting mid-surfaces from solids? how to account for the sheet (planar and normal) anisotropy?, etc.) will be welcome!
Regards

Hi Devendra,
No news about this topic? I´ll appreciate it since I am stuck.
Thanks

Hello Miguel,Â
Its not possible to parametrize the thickness of the Sheet metal from the options shown below in the properties panel:
You can refer the Using a Bend Deduction Table where you define combination of Thickness and VeeDieWidth like one shown below:
Although this is for bend radius and not directly for thickness. Comma-Separated Value FileÂ
Another way could be to create a mid-surface and assign a thickness to it in Mechanical. Let me know if this helps.
Thanks,Â
Devendra

Thanks Devendra!
That´s fine. It´s pretty much the same recommendation I got from your mate Sampat Kumat here:
/forum/forums/topic/sheet-metal-parts-in-spaceclaim-and-mechanical/#post-357248
What about the questions about how to deal with other sheetmetal parts features (bends, beams/ribs/dimples, gussets,…) and characteristics (planar and normal anisotropy, springback, eventual thinnings,...)? Any tips there?
Thanks again.

Hello Miguel,Â
Other Sheetmetal features cannot be parametrized. Those are features for modification and creation of sheetmetal parts.Â
