Magnetic Latching course focuses on understanding basic and advanced concepts with permanent magnets and latching applications. The course materials provided are tested using Ansys Maxwell® advanced electromagnetic field solver in Ansys Electronics Desktop (AEDT)™ electronics systems design platform. Following topics are covered in the course:
- Understanding permanent magnets.
- Magnetization assignment to permanent magnets for latching applications.
- Basic permanent magnet latch modeling.
- Magnetization / demagnetization.
- Hysteresis modeling for remanent flux.
- Maxwell + Motion for kinematics and impact stress computation.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course you will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of permanent magnets and their applications.
- Assign magnetization to permanent magnets for latching applications.
- Setup and simulate magnetic field and force.
- Size permanent magnets and select material types through parametric studies.
- Model magnetization / demagnetization, magnetic moment, hysteresis, and remanent flux.
Prerequisites:
- Completion of the Maxwell Getting Started course or equivalent familiarity with the Ansys Maxwell software and the AEDT graphical user interface.
- Familiarity with the physics of magnetic fields, magnetic materials and magnetization
- The course Ansys Maxwell Magnets is also recommended.
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2022R1 release. However, due to kernel change, simulation files compatible from 2025R1 version are also provided.
