SKU: PL-ST-00088 Categories: , Tag:

This course focuses on modeling material failure phenomena and their industrial applications in Ansys LS-DYNA® nonlinear dynamics structural simulation software. The course covers applications in electronics, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, civil, medical, defense, sports, and consumer products. Examples include, but are not limited to, material failure in electronic packaging, crashworthiness, turbine engine safety, bird-striking, joining and assembly process, drop test, and metal fabrication. A wide range of natural and man-made materials are considered, such as metal alloy, glass, plastic, foam, composite (laminate, fiber reinforced), and concrete. The failure process to be modeled spans from low speed deformation to high strain rate dynamic response, such as ductile and brittle failure, crack propagation, delamination (in laminates), and fragmentation.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental theories of SPG (Smoothed Particle Galerkin), Peri (Peridynamics), SPH, and XFEM.
  • Know the difference between FEM failure mechanisms and SPG, Peri, SPH, and XFEM failure mechanisms.
  • Identify the appropriate method for a particular analysis involving material failure in different industries such as automobile, aerospace, manufacturing, and defense.
  • Understand the details of LS-DYNA keywords for SPG, Peri, SPH, and XFEM.
  • Set up LS-DYNA simulations using SPG, Peri, SPH, and XFEM.
  • Interpret the results from SPG, Peri, SPH, and XFEM simulations.

Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge of Ansys LS-DYNA software is desirable.
