Lower-order elements are prone to shear locking in bending-dominated problems. Model may be undergoing shear locking when using SOLID85 elements. Shear locking causes the elements to be over stiff in bending leading to high frequency in Modal. This can be controlled by Keyopt2. One can resolve this issue by using simple enhanced strain formulation-> keyopt (2)=3 or 2. Higher order elements 95 & 186 have less issues of shear locking. Description of elements formulation can be found in ANSYS Help: // Element Reference // 5. Elements for Stress Analysis // 5.1. Continuum Stress Elements –> 5.1.2 Element Technologies
