This course focuses on the design and analysis of an AC Brushless Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) using Ansys Motor-CAD® dedicated electric motor design tool for Multiphysics simulation. It will provide you with a broader understanding of the capabilities of the software in simulating this topology of rotating electrical machine as well as giving you an introduction to the fundamentals of electric machine modelling and design.
Learning Outcomes:
Following the completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Define the geometry of the rotating PMSM to be analyzed, its winding pattern and materials selection.
- Set up the single operating points to be analyzed in the motor topology and review the results.
- Create efficiency and loss maps for the defined geometry.
- Set up a full cooling system for the motor model.
- Run steady-state and transient thermal analysis on the model.
- Compare continuous and peak performances of the machine.
- Set up mechanical analysis to get an understanding of mechanical stress on the rotor structure.
- Run mechanical analysis to get an initial response for the Electromagnetic Noise Vibration and Harshness analysis.
Prerequisites:
- Basic knowledge of electric machines.
- An active Motor-CAD license is required to take part in this course.
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2025R1 release.
