Crosstalk and Near Field Coupling

FREE

2-4 HOURS

NPTEL

This course covers the comprehensive study of crosstalk or near field coupling, a phenomenon where one circuit interferes with another due to a common impedance. The course begins with an introduction to the concept, followed by an in-depth exploration of common impedance coupling, capacitive coupling, and inductive coupling. For instance, the course explains how coupling capacitors play a role in the interaction between two circuits, the source circuit, and the victim circuit. The course also investigates the interaction of electromagnetic fields with electrical circuits, particularly in the context of noise pickup from PCB lands and component leads. It further provides a detailed analysis of the model, highlighting the differences between near end and far end crosstalk. The course concludes with exercises and practical examples, such as crosstalk in power lines and printed circuit boards. This course has been developed by Prof. Daniel Mansson and Prof. Rajeev Thottappillil from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden for NPTEL. It is now accessible through Ansys Innovation Space courtesy of the partnership between Ansys and NPTEL, under the CC BY-SA license. For more details, visit https://nptel.ac.in/courses/108106138.
