What are the common reasons for convergence issue in using a multilinear hardening plasticity model?

A common cause of element distortion issues while using multilinear hardening plasticity model is that the maximum plastic strain developed in the model is more than the last data point defined in the material curve. Beyond this point, the material behaves like a perfectly plastic material, therefore the material can undergo very large deformation without any hardening. Another common cause is the use of incorrect units for defining the material curve. In such cases, the model may issue element distortion issues even at very little loads.
