We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

In Workbench Additive, Is it possible to calculate the laser power based on the input temperature?

Workbench additive does not use laser power. We assume that the process parameters have been set correctly so that all the powder on the top layer has been melted, and not underheated nor overheated. We also heat (melt) the entire layer at once. However, we can indirectly calculate the laser power. Once we have the volume of the melted material, that will give us the mass of it and based on the latent heat(Lf) and heat capacity(C) one can find how much energy is needed for it. Now just divide this energy by the time it took to create that much of molten material, and this will give us the power of the laser. No FEA needed. Q=Power*time=mCΔT+mLf
