In Explicit Dynamics and Autodyn Component systems, do we have to use failure model in the materials that are only used in the multi-material Euler solver when conducting hyper-velocity impact and penetration simulations?

The answer is no. The multi-material Euler solver usually under-predicts the penetration depth when comparing with experimental results. Using the Euler solver without a material failure model makes numerical results stiffer and thus more close to the experimental measurements. Failure models are still recommended to the materials in Lagrange solver in these simulations
