This video shows that ANSYS Mechanical can help you to go beyond the first simulation in just a few more mouse clicks. The first simulation usually tells you that the initial design is not optimal and needs improvement so as to meet the design requirement. The designer then needs to parameter study of the design. ANSYS Mechanical allows you to automate the design variation and improve existing design. Applications ANSYS Workbench ANSYS Mechanical Modeling Considerations A parametric finite element model is a useful tool for evaluating design sensitivity from a variety of levels. This video introduces an example of a parametric finite element model in three main parts: ï‚· Analyzing a few design variations in CAD o Making the model a parametric model by marking different geometry dimension with parametric symbol ï‚· Analyzing over a range of parameters o Used Design Exploration, Responses Surfaces to graph show the variation of stress, strain or weight with respect to the design parameters. ï‚· Setting up the mechanical model o General steps to set up a mechanical model Problem Statement This video use design of a bracket with a bolt in a rubber spacer as an example. The design requirement is s model as lightweight as possible with stress in the steel bracket less than 230MPa and strain in the spacer less than 5%. The initial design result is a 982g structure with stress in the steel bracket 282Mpa and strain in the spacer 5.1%, which does not meet the design requirement. Simulation Outcomes The optimized design result is a new design with weight 981g, stress in the steel bracket 225MPa and strain in the spacer 4.4%, which satisfies the design requirement. The video shows that ANSYS Mechanical can quickly exam many different variations of the same design to determine best possible variations that meet the design goals.
