We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

How are the global and part velocities calculated in rigid body dynamics?

In GLSTAT, the “global x velocity” is calculated as: x velocity = sum(nodal mass * nodal x-vel)/sum(nodal mass) Likewise for y and z global velocities The summations above are done over all the nodes of the part in question. The Resultant Velocity is the square root of the sum of the squares of the x, y and z velocities. This is similarly done on a part-by-part basis in MATSUM where the quantities are referred to as the “rigid body velocities”, i.e., x-rbvelocity, y-rbvelocity and z-rbvelocity.
