The outlet is connected to the inlet via a fan BC,and pressure jump used to suck flow into the device via the inlet at the inlet. Will this work?

Yes you can use FAN BC in this situation, but the angle of incidence that the fan model can tolerate is limited. The simplest fan model is a 2D model, so it can only operate reliably with flow entering and leaving normal to the “fan plane” An alternative solution is to use a momentum source term in an extra cell zone that connects the inlet and outlet zones. This option will work better for flows where the incidence is angled to the inlet plane of the fan.
