Ansys EmployeeI have a 4 layer PCB, do I need to create a single via or a via array for isolation?

Ansys EmployeeHello,
That's all depends on the operating frequency. At low frequency, a single ground via may be sufficient to keep ground as ground but as you go higher in the frequency you may need to create a via fence to keep the signal isolated from other parasitics.

Ansys EmployeeThank you for the response.
How much space should I put between the vias then?

Ansys EmployeeHi - The rule of thumb is lambda/20 but it depends on your application.

Ansys EmployeeIf I have to consider the fourth harmonic should I decrease the spacing?

Ansys EmployeeIn addition to the above responses, depending on which harmonic you are concerned about will dictate the spacing. From the RF/microwave perspective, more ground vias are better.Â
