SubscriberI am having some trouble accessing design modeler. I have an ANSYS 2022 R1 license and have been using workbench to make simulations. I would like to add design modeler to my workflow. When I create a new geometry system in workbench my only two options are to create a "New SPACECLAIM geometry" or to import geometry. How do I get "New Design Modeler geometry" prompt to appear?
In the ANSYS customer portal i have downloaded the full package of 2022 R1 Structures (but not ANSYS motion) under the primary packages tab and the SpaceClaim full package under the Add-on packages tab.Â
I cannot find any documentation on what packages include design modeler so Im not even sure if i have it installed or not.Â
Do I need to download an additional software package from the customer portal downloads page or am I missing something else?
Thank You -

Forum ModeratorHi Ben, It seems like you are using professional version of Ansys and not the student one, can you please open a new Service Request for this on our customer portal?

Ansys EmployeeHi Ben
DesignModeler is part of the Workbench installation. Workbench will then show the analysis and component systems, and geometry editors, that are allowed by the current licenses available. Mike

SubscriberYou must first construct simply the surface using a CAD tool, such as Solidworks, in order to import it into ANSYS in the Design Modeler

Ansys EmployeeHi Uncape Uncape
That is not correct - Design Modeler is a CAD tool. While it can import CAD files from other tools you can also start a cad model 'from scratch' with it.
