Topological optimization generative design and how they differ

      Hello everyone!

I'm a final-year mechanical engineering student, currently working on my thesis titled “Possibilities of Component Optimization using Generative Design.” As part of my research, I’m investigating the differences between topological optimization and generative design. Some articles suggest that the primary difference lies in the number of design options generated from a single set of input parameters, but I’d like to understand the nuances more thoroughly. For example, does Ansys incorporate generative AI for design generation? If it does, what role does the AI serve and how does it work?

Could anyone provide insight into this topic or recommend any articles that might be helpful for my thesis? I’d really appreciate any guidance!

      Thank you very much!

Generative design is a transformative approach that combines real-time simulation and artificial intelligence to enable rapid exploration, iteration, and validation of numerous design possibilities. It allows for the creation of organic shapes and compositions that might not be conceivable through traditional design methods. With generative design in ANSYS Discovery, you can easily adjust design constraints such as loads, materials, feature size, and allowable regions to discover the optimal shape for your project.
