Stopping simulation automatically at composite failure based on displacement

      Hello everyone,

I am working on a three-point bending simulation on a composite sandwich structure with a NIDA core in ANSYS Mechanical.

In my model, I apply a Remote Displacement on the upper cylinder, with a prescribed translation in the Z direction. After running the simulation, I evaluate the failure criteria of the composite facesheets.

What I would like to achieve is the following:
instead of prescribing a final displacement value and checking failure afterward, I want the simulation to automatically stop at the displacement where the first failure criterion is reached (damage initiation or rupture).

In other words, I would like the solver to stop when a failure index reaches 1, and to directly obtain the corresponding displacement value.

Is there a way in ANSYS Mechanical to:

      • stop the analysis based on a composite failure criterion, or

      • link the stopping condition to damage initiation, material failure, or a user-defined result?

Any guidance, examples, or recommended approaches (e.g. nonlinear analysis, APDL commands, user-defined results, or damage models) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help.

      Best regards,

The NLHIST command can be used to terminate the solution once the selected result item attains a specific value.

The approach can be used within Mechanical through a command snippet.

CFB 27 Coordinator Hiring: Building the Perfect Coaching Staff

      CFB 27 Staff Building Guide

Your coaching staff is your most important asset in CFB 27 Dynasty. Great coordinators elevate your schemes, develop your players, and build recruiting relationships. This guide covers the complete staff building system.

      Coordinator Archetypes

Coordinators fall into archetypes that determine their strengths:

      • Scheme Guru: Elite tactical coaches who maximize scheme effectiveness. Hire them when you want a schematic advantage.
      • Recruiter: Coaches who excel at building relationships with prospects. Hire them when you need recruiting help.
      • Developer: Coaches who maximize player growth. Hire them when you have young talent that needs development.
      • Motivator: Coaches who improve player morale and performance in big games. Hire them for culture building.

      Scheme Fit

Your coordinators must fit your scheme. A spread-offense coordinator will struggle with a pro-style head coach system. An aggressive 3-4 coordinator will clash with a conservative 4-3 system. Hire coordinators whose philosophy aligns with yours or who bring complementary skills to your staff.

      Building a Development Pipeline

Your staff should develop players and coaches simultaneously:

      • Position Coaches: Hire former players or young coaches with high development ratings.
      • Coordinators: Hire experienced coordinators who can mentor position coaches.
      • Succession Planning: When your coordinator leaves for a head coaching job, promote from within to maintain continuity.

      The Coordinating Pipeline

Great programs produce head coaches. When your coordinators are hired away for head coaching jobs, it validates your program and improves your coaching reputation. Hire coordinators who are ambitious but loyal—they will win with you before moving on, and their success becomes your legacy.

Visit CFB 27 coaching staff database for coordinator ratings, archetype breakdowns, and community hiring recommendations.
