Simulating open bifilar coils in ANSYS HFSS (HELP needed)

      Greetings all,

I am trying to simulate an open bifilar planar spiral coil (see attached image) in ANSYS HFSS and my goal is to be able to see the voltage between the turns, Current distribution along the turns, and determine the self-capacitance of the coil and self-resonant frequency.

The structure I am trying to simulate is shown below:

I am not sure what's wrong in your model yet. Ive been simulating helical spirals with cores, and twisted pcb-based spirals... it worked.nDon't forget about gaps between objects and turns. If these too small, mesh can intersect at initial step, further steps will be ruined. So define finer curve approximation, set a second order or mixed order solution in setup. Don't forget to apply curvelinear meshing. And if not sure, seed the surface with shortest allowed element length.nnBTW... seems like your spiral arm elements are not united. If you unite, the joint line should disappear. If not, there is a gap.n

Hi,nPlease make sure that you are using the following as the reference paper:ndimensions, nmaterial assignments, nexcitation amplitudes, nboundary conditions if any.nRegarding the Jsurf plot, If you are unable to see the plot by using XY section, then you can select the required coil and try to plot.nAll the very best.nBest Regards,n

Hello again,nnSorry for not replying earlier but I was able to resolve the problems I was having in my simulation. I only needed a finer mesh to be able to see the field details in my structure.nnThanks again for your replies... you definitely guided me in the right direction.nnMAn
