SubscriberHello All,
I'm trying to run a transient co-simulation between Maxwell and Simplorer. I can run both of them separately but when I link them together, I will face these errors and the simulation will stop working:
Project1 (C
Users/Mohammad.Shahabbasi/Documents/Ansoft/)
 Maxwell3DDesign1 (Transient)
[info] Verify conduction path: Conduction path validate success. (12:26:10 PM Dec 11, 2019)
[error] Unable to create child process: 3dtds. Please contact ANSYS technical support. (12:28:10 PM Dec 11, 2019)
[error] Simulation completed with execution error on server: Local Machine. (12:28:11 PM Dec 11, 2019)
 TwinBuilder1
[error] An external simulator couldn't be setup for simulation. (12:28:11 PM Dec 11, 2019)
[error] Simulation completed with execution error on server: Local Machine. (12:28:11 PM Dec 11, 2019)

I'm using Ansys through CMC license at the University of Alberta. I've checked the "Enable the transient-transient link with twin builder" in the maxwell and I've added the maxwell model from the transient co-simulation option in the twin builder. My Ansys version is 2019R3. I will really appreciate it if anyone could help me with this problem.

Ansys EmployeeCan you post an image of your circuit connection around the Maxwell model? Here are 3 things to try and look for:
1) If you have stranded windings in Maxwell, then use a resistor (DC winding resistance) and small inductor in series with the positive terminal for each winding. Make sure that the series inductor uses an initial current, and either start it from zero or a small value for initial testing.
2) If you have a current source in the circuit, try adding a large parallel resistance (larger than winding impedance ~1Gohm maybe) to the current source. Also, if you have a Wye-connection in 3-phase, try using a large resistance to ground.
3)Â If you have a voltage source or capacitor in the circuit, try adding a series resistance (like an internal, or source resistance).

SubscriberThanks for your reply. I've attached the picture of the Simplorer and maxwell model. The winding is not stranded and it's solid and I'm using a very simple circuit it's a 100kHz trapezoidal 365V voltage source in series with the winding. I include the series 25ohms resistor as well and also I tried initial current for the winding but the problem insists.

Ansys EmployeeJust from looking at your winding, you should probably use Stranded, and specify the number of turns. Unless you physically draw all the geometric turns separately, that is the only time to use Solid windings.
The Simplorer model will override the Initial Current in Maxwell model. I suggest to add a small series inductor between the resistor and winding input terminal (delete the wire before placing the new component to prevent any issues about placement), and to define the initial current directly in the circuit side (use a small initial current value, and then you will see it respond naturally to the L/R time constant response).
Otherwise I suggest to go back to the separate models and to really make sure that the results make sense. Can you calculate inductance in Maxwell, and does it match what you might expect under ideal conditions? Does the circuit model show an L/R response that you would expect? Can you control initial values how you might expect in both cases?

SubscriberI checked everything. Yes in the separate model it gives me the inductance value (Both stranded and solid) and it makes sense with the ideal case also the L/R response is reasonable. I changed the winding type to stranded and assigned the number of turns but it still gives me the same errors (with or without the small inductor).Â

SubscriberGood morning,
This student is using our licence file features (ANSYS Campus Solutions). His original trouble stemmed from his inability to connect simulations between Maxwell 3D and Simplorer/Twin Builder.
We have been unable to find a ready-made example to test the connection or determine if we have this feature in our bundle. May we ask the following of you?
1) Direct us to a co-simulation example - Training Hub, Help Files, other - that we could try in ANSYS 2019 R3; and
2) Tell us which licence feature enables this co-simulation function.
Neither module (Maxwell, Simplorer/Twin Builder) is one that our staff has used much in the past.
Â
Thank you for your consideration,
CMC Microsystems' technical support staff

SubscriberGood morning, Mr. Larsen,
Kindly disregard the two questions above. We isolated the "TDSlink" feature using our Licence Monitoring software and the latest ANSYS EDT release while running a copy of our subscriber's project file.Â
Thank you for helping our subscriber.

Subscriber.Hi,
I had ben facing similar issues while co-simulating Ansys Simplorer and Maxwell.
Shockingly, I observed that shorter file names somehow resolves the issues and simulation takes place.
Although, I am still not aware what actually happens with shorter and longer file names.
You can give it a try!
