SubscriberI believe ANSYS Fluent has vortex method and/or harmonic method to model fluctuating velocity at velocity inlet boundaries. I have been studying the user manual for CFX version 2023 R1m but unfortunately I have not found any reference to a similar method being implemented into CFX.Â
Would somebody please assist in confirming or deny whether this is true?
Best regards

Ansys EmployeeHi,
For the velocity inlet, the fluctuations are added on the mean specified velocity.
You can check fluent theory guide for more details: 4.15.3. Inlet Boundary Conditions for Scale Resolving Simulations (ansys.com)
Hope this helps you.
Thank you.

SubscriberHi, thank you very much for your response. How about in CFX, instead of Fluent? There is no mention in the CFX theory guide to an equivalent method.
Best regards

Ansys EmployeeHi,
You can try specifying turbulent intensity at the inlet.

SubscriberHi,
I have already specified a turbulent intensity at the inlet. This is not what I am looking for though. For unsteady simulations, I believe a turbulent flow inlet is desireable. Ie: one in which a time-varying flowfield is specified for the resolved length scales. The inflow fluctuations are used to emulate the turbulent content of the real problem being studied.
I know Fluent incorporates the possibility of using the "Vortex method", a synthetic turbulence generator. I believe it also has the option of using "spectral synthesizer".Â
What I would like to know, if possible please, is whether CFX incorporates a synthetic turbulence generator option. And if so, would you kindly suggest how to access this utility?
Â
Best regards
