SubscriberWe would like to ask if it is possible to set chirality for materials in the FDTD of Lumerical.
We would like to use a dielectric material with different absorption coefficients for rightward/leftward circular polarization in our simulation.
In some previous studies, it seems to be possible to set the material chirality by setting the pasteur parameter (±k) in addition to the complex refractive index using COMSOL multiphysics.(e.g. https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsphotonics.8b00270)
We are looking for the possibility of setting similar parameters in Lumerical, but have not been able to find any prior studies at this time.

Ansys EmployeeHi Naoki,
Thank you for reaching out to us! I am afraid that FDTD right now does not simulate chiral materials.
Please note that this is the optics forum and not the photonics where lumerical related question are posted. For your next lumerical question please post at: Ansys photonics forum.
Kind Regards,
Niki
