At Protto UFSC Motorsport, our Formula SAE team, we developed and validated the transmission system of our prototype, focusing on structural efficiency and performance optimization. The system was manufactured using Aluminum 7075-T6, selected for its high strength-to-weight ratio and suitability for motorsport applications.
Advanced structural simulations were conducted to accurately represent the loads generated by the engine and transmitted through the chain drive to the differential. These analyses allowed us to evaluate stress distribution, deformation, and safety factors under real operating conditions.
Through iterative simulation and design refinement, we strategically removed material from low-stress regions, achieving significant mass reduction without compromising structural integrity. This optimization improved power transmission efficiency, vehicle dynamics, and overall prototype performance.
The simulation-driven approach provided strong technical validation, supported our engineering decisions, and strengthened our presentation during the competition.
