SubscriberHi,
I am having trouble creating a motion setup using a ring shape motion band. I am not sure it is possible to do in Ansys Maxwell 3D Transient Solver. The Grey inner circle is stationary and the Blue circle with the parts above it are to be in motion and they are inside the Transient motion band I have set up but I am getting 2 error messages which cannot possibly be correct:
[error] Moving objects touch the stationary shell. (10:52:46 AM  Jan 30, 2025)
[error] Motion setup (geometry) is not valid. (10:52:46 AM  Jan 30, 2025)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ansys EmployeeHi,
Ansys Maxwell Transient Simulation Stationary Shell
Please include an inner region as we previously discussed. Please also create a solution region that contains all stationary and moving objects.

SubscriberHi Gluo,
I made this example of a simpler model to see if the ring transient band works at all. Are you saying I need an inner region (Vacuum or Air) inside the transient region, both of which exclusively encompass the moving parts only and don't touch or encompass the stationary parts?
Does the inner region need to be a ring shape, and only need to encompass the red, brass and blue parts with maybe a 2 mm gap around all of them?

Ansys EmployeeRing-shaped motion band works for translation motion.
1.Are you saying I need an inner region (Vacuum or Air) inside the transient region, both of which exclusively encompass the moving parts only and don't touch or encompass the stationary parts?
Yes
2. Does the inner region need to be a ring shape, and only need to encompass the red, brass and blue parts with maybe a 2 mm gap around all of them?
Yes. And this inner region should be completely inside the motion band without touching.

Subscriber Hi GL,
Thank you for the support on this matter so far, it is greatly appreciated.
I have created the ring-shaped inner region inside the motion band as seen in red in the below image. The inner region is exclusively inside the motion band and does not touch any of the moving parts, it only encompasses them. It also doesn't touch any of the stationary parts. I am still getting the same error message:
[error] Moving objects touch the stationary shell.
[error] Motion setup (geometry) is not valid.Do you have any other suggestions of can you check to see if I have done what you have said to do correctly? Thank you

Ansys EmployeeHi,
 Please make sure
1. motion band is not touching stationary objects.
2. motion band is not touching inner band.
3. Inner band is not touching moving objects.
If the issue persists, please use the support button to submit a service ticket. Our engineers will help check your model.

SubscriberHi GL,
Thanks for the reply. Where might I find the support button to submit a service ticket? I have looked in the help menu but cannot see anything about submitting a ticket. Thank you
