Question about hfss_gui as a Connection Debugging Symptom and its Cause

Good afternoon,
One of our subscribers has been reporting an issue when a local Linux shell script is used to invoke Ansys EDT tools.
The network connection between servers looks like this (Figure 1):
University network: Subscriber is building a project on a Windows computer, then uploading it to a Linux server and trying to run an HPC simulation from the command line.
CMC Data Centre: Connection through a firewall/router via a secure, encrypted virtual private link.
Broadband network: Optical fibre serving both sites.
Our Ansys licence server debug logs show successful connections and checkouts for 2024 R2 EDT features, yet also a denial for feature hfss_gui. This behaviour occurs for the same user name and server name in the same session.
We remember seeing this feature hfss_gui when Ansys staff had separate names for academic features as opposed to commercial feature names. We can produce this hfss_gui error message if we deliberately start Ansys EDT without a licence server connection.
We don’t have a copy of the shell script being sourced before attempting to start Ansys EDT.
On the subscriber’s Linux server, what could be generating this hfss_gui denial? Please advise.

Hi,
Which version of Ansys EDT is user using? If it's above v241 then hfss_gui is not used.

Good morning,
What you write is correct as we understand it. Ansys staff condensed its licence feature name count so that only commercial feature names are used. This change was implemented a couple of years ago.
Our question is: Feature hfss_gui appears to be used as part of a notification when Ansys EDT cannot connect to a licence server. We have included here an example for Ansys 2024 R2 (HFSS). Is there any other condition that would cause this feature report to appear, excepting a 'feature not found' situation?
We are asking on behalf of a client. Thank you for reviewing our request.

Good morning,
One more point to include with this request for help. The client reports that he is connecting from his local desktop to a local Linux server using Ansys RSM. His CAD version is Ansys EDT 2024 R1. What settings on either or both workstations using an RSM connection could cause a report of feature “hfss_gui” in our server debug logs? Please advise.

Please goto your %temp% folder open .ansys folder you will get information which increment it is trying it pull first, from *edt.out file or *hfss.out file.
I know the error can be confusing but since the older version supports hfss_gui, the newer version shows the same error when all other increments are denied or in use. -

Thank you for this suggestion. We will pass it along to the student in question.
