width= width=This course covers the comprehensive understanding of thermal design in motors. It begins with the concept of heat generation and dissipation in motors, and the role of finite element analysis in thermal design. For instance, the course explains how to model a motor thermally using basic principles of heat flow, applying Ohm's law in temperature difference and thermal resistance. It also discusses the significance of material properties and geometry in conduction and convection. The course further delves into the process of attaching various components to the motor, the role of thermal compounds, and the impact of housing thickness on heat convection. It concludes with the exploration of thermal effects on electronic components, emphasizing the importance of considering thermal limits during the design stage to prevent component failure or fire.
