Select the statements that are true:
The following image shows various data types in the Script Workspace. Which of the following corresponds to “Cell array”, “Struct” and “Rectilinear dataset” in the correct order?
Data in the Result View window includes packaged dataset results and _____ which is unpackaged data.
For example, if the answer is black cloud, type "black cloud".
The following image shows the Objects Tree. Which object is an analysis group?
Where in the following image would you click to switch the plot type to a vector plot?
Where in the following image would you click to plot the x-component of the electric field?
Where in the following image would you click to change the axes limits and labels of the plot?
True or false? It is not possible to estimate the level of the absolute error in an FDTD simulation unless you have an analytical result to compare with.
The "T" result returned by a 2D frequency-domain field and power monitor is a dataset which includes transmission data as a function of frequency. Which is the attribute of the dataset?
See the following workflows for designing a device using FDTD. Select the recommended workflow.
Select the statements that are true:
Which of the following statements about analysis groups are true?
Which of the following data formats can Lumerical export data to?
Select the methods that can be used to determine whether a simulation is terminated early due to reaching the auto-shutoff threshold?
In this exercise, a 2D simulation is used to simulate a 1x2 port multi-mode interference (MMI) coupler. This device can be used to split or combine light, and in this case, light is input from one port on the left and split evenly between the output ports on the right. Anti-symmetric boundaries are used in the y-direction to take advantage of the symmetry of the structure and source.
Run the associated script file to set up the simulation.
Part 1: Auto shut off threshold
After running the simulation, check whether the auto-shutoff threshold is reached.
If the auto-shutoff level did not reach the threshold, re-run the simulation to find the necessary simulation time for the auto-shutoff threshold to be reached.
Was the auto-shutoff threshold reached?
Part 1: Auto shut off threshold
Approximately how long does the simulation time need to be before the auto-shutoff threshold is reached (in units of femtoseconds)?
Choose from below the one closest to the result.
Part 2: Convergence testing
Sweep the value of the mesh accuracy setting between 1-8 to perform convergence testing for the transmission through the T monitor. You can run the "mesh_accuracy" parameter sweep task to run the simulations. Information about using the parameter sweep tool can be found here.
Use mesh accuracy setting 3. Sweep the y span setting of the simulation region between 2.5 um and 5 um and measure the transmission through the T monitor. You can run the "y_span" parameter sweep task to run the simulations.
What mesh accuracy is required to obtain an absolute error due to the mesh below 5%?
For example, if the answer is 'mesh accuracy' of 7, type in 7.
Part 2: Convergence testing
Approximately what 'y span' is required to obtain an absolute error below 1% (in units of microns)? Enter an integer value.
