Birth and Death is an advanced technique in Ansys Mechanical™ structural finite element analysis software that allows to (re)activate or deactivate certain elements during the analysis. Typical examples include manufacturing/assembly processes or analyses involving failure/removal of material like excavation (as in tunnelling or slurry wall excavation), staged construction (as in un-shored bridge erection), sequential assembly (as in fabrication of layered computer chips, epoxy curing), weld deposition, annealing and 3D printing among others. Two tutorials will walk you through the 3 types and will be demonstrated in two short videos.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand the procedure and the implementation of the 3 types of Birth and Death in Ansys Mechanical software: Body Birth and Death, Contact Birth and Death and Element by Element Birth and Death that requires command snippet.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2021R1 release.
