The workshop provides a step-by-step guide to mapping forces from Ansys Maxwell® advanced electromagnetic field solver to Ansys Mechanical™ structural finite element analysis software for a full model of an Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) motor with eccentricity. It includes project setup, RPM and phase current specification, data import and downsampling, force calculation, mesh validation, postprocessing, and mechanical integration, ensuring accurate force mapping and optimized motor performance across multiple speeds.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

    • Understand rotor magnetic (RM) forces in IPM motors under eccentricity conditions.
    • Set up and configure an Ansys Maxwell solver motor simulation, including operating conditions, current inputs, and meshing requirements.
    • Perform force calculations and analyze electromagnetic forces, including rotor force effects due to eccentricity.
    • Transfer and map force results from Ansys Maxwell to Ansys Mechanical software for structural harmonic analysis.
    • Interpret simulation results and apply insights to optimize motor design and performance.

Prerequisites:

    • Mapping Forces of an Internal Permanent Magnet (IPM) Motor with One Speed
