This tutorial describes how one can use the Ansys Motor-CAD® dedicated electric motor design tool for multiphysics simulation Mechanical module to evaluate the rotor stress distribution in electrical machines.

It gives a brief description of how to set up a Motor-CAD model for a stress analysis, run the simulation and view the results. All calculations are done using the Motor-CAD 2D FE solver.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Perform rotor mechanical stress analysis in Ansys Motor-CAD.
  • Define and configure mechanical material properties for stress simulations.
  • Evaluate the effects of magnets, shaft interference, and rotor geometry on stress levels.
  • Improve simulation accuracy through geometry refinement and mesh control.
  • Assess rotor safety using stress results and yield strength criteria.
  • Analyze the impact of operating speed on rotor stress and durability.

Prerequisites:

  • Getting Started with Ansys Motor-CAD Software course.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2026 R1 release.
