SKU: PL-ST-00077 Categories: , Tag:

This course provides an introduction to modeling thermoplastics using Ansys LS-DYNA® nonlinear dynamics structural simulation software, with a focus on the complex mechanical behaviors of these materials, including anisotropy, compressibility, and strain-rate sensitivity. Participants will learn the fundamental concepts of strain and stress measures, classical plasticity theory, and computational techniques for simulating plastic deformation. The course also explores specialized material models such as MAT_024, SAMP-1, and SAMP_LIGHT, which enable accurate representation of thermoplastic behavior under various loading conditions. A practical case study using PC/ABS is included, demonstrating experimental characterization, model calibration, and analysis of simulation results.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the mechanical behavior of thermoplastics, including anisotropy, compressibility, and strain-rate sensitivity.
  • Distinguish between engineering and true strain/stress measures and apply them appropriately in simulations.
  • Apply classical plasticity theory and computational techniques to model plastic deformation in Ansys LS-DYNA.
  • Select and configure suitable material models (e.g., MAT_024, SAMP-1, SAMP_LIGHT) for accurate thermoplastic simulation.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results using experimental data for model calibration and validation.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of Introduction to Ansys LS-DYNA course is required.
