Random Vibration of a Printed Circuit Board Assembly in an Enclosure
2-4 HOURS
This course reviews how to perform a Random Vibration analysis of a PCBA inside an enclosure using the Ansys Sherlock™ electronics reliability prediction software integrated in Ansys Workbench™ simulation integration platform. This includes project setup, exporting to Ansys Workbench software/ Ansys Mechanical software, alignment of the PCBA to the enclosure, running an analysis, and reviewing results. Two different methods are reviewed. The primary failure modes of interest are solder fatigue & lead fatigue due to board bending, component motion, and lead bending under vibrational loads. In this case, the impact of the larger system (i.e. enclosure) on the PCBA is now captured.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Set up an analysis in Ansys Workbench platform using both the export method from Ansys Sherlock Software and Ansys Sherlock (Pre)/(Post) method inside the Ansys Workbench environment.
- Align the PCBA with the enclosure using local coordinate systems.
- Review results using both the Sherlock RST import method and the Ansys Sherlock (Post) method inside the Ansys Workbench environment.
Prerequisites:
- Ansys Sherlock Getting Started.
- Random Vibration Analysis of a Printed Circuit Board Assembly with Ansys Sherlock Software.
- Some working knowledge of random vibration loads such as PSD profiles is a plus.
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2024R2 release.
