width=This course covers the fundamental principles of engine cycles and refrigeration. It begins with an exploration of the air standard auto cycle, an idealized model of the processes in a spark ignition engine. Students learn about the four-stroke engine process and the concept of compression ratio. The course then moves on to the specific power of spark ignition in internal combustion engines, discussing the strategies to increase specific power and the limitations of these strategies. The course also includes a detailed analysis of an ideal standard diesel cycle, explaining how to determine thermal efficiency and mean effective pressure. Finally, the course delves into the vapor compression refrigeration cycle, explaining its working substance, the refrigerant, and how it executes a cyclic process.
