This course covers fundamental concepts of structural systems, focusing on rigid bodies, their classifications, and internal forces. It covers various structural systems like trusses, beams, frames, and introduces one-dimensional components. The course explains forces acting on these structures, the concept of a link member, and the sign convention for internal forces. It discusses truss systems, structures made up of one-dimensional axial members, and their analysis. The course introduces the method of joints for solving internal forces and concludes with a discussion on stability in structural systems, the concept of degrees of freedom, and the difference between stable, statically indeterminate, and unstable systems.
