Conducting a time-history dynamic analysis of a structure under short, nondeterministic, and time-dependent loading conditions can be highly time-consuming and computationally expensive. Response spectrum analysis is an alternative method to approximate the maximum response for such cases. It is a mode superposition analysis, which means it’s important to select the proper mode combination method, as this can affect the prediction of the peak response. Also, understanding the difference between periodic and rigid responses helps us to properly combine the modes together. Additionally, in the case that we do not have sufficient effective mass extracted from the modal analysis, we may need to account for the contribution of the missing mass. In this course, we will explain how a response spectrum analysis is conducted, along with the important considerations and techniques in mode combination.

A course completion badge allows you to showcase your success. We partner with the Credly Acclaim platform, and digital badges can be used in email signatures, digital resumes and social media sites. The digital image contains verified metadata that describes your participation in our course and the topics and skills that were covered. This badge is for successfully completing the Single-Point Response Spectrum Analysis Using Ansys Mechanical course.
