width=This course covers the comprehensive understanding of Ground Segment in Satellite Communication. It starts with an introduction to the ground segment, also known as earth stations, and their types. For instance, the course delves into the subsystems inside the earth station, the types of antennas used, and the measurement techniques of the earth station's receive and transmit characteristics. It also discusses the different types of earth stations based on their mobility and communication capabilities. The course further explores the various types of antennas used in the ground segment, the ITU regulation of a ground segment, and the concept of a 'parking slot' in satellite communication. It introduces the concept of Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) and explains why a VSAT always needs a large station at the other end. The course also covers the calculation of power requirements for VSAT communication via satellite and the key parameters of earth stations, focusing on the G/T ratio that defines the receive characteristics of an antenna.
