Rheology and Blood Components

This course covers the comprehensive understanding of rheology, with a specific focus on the rheology of blood. It starts with the basic definition of rheology, moving on to the work of renowned rheologists and the difference between Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. The course further explores the behaviors of fluids, such as shear thinning, shear thickening, and viscoelastic behavior, using blood as an illustrative example. It also provides an in-depth understanding of the different components of blood and the factors affecting its viscosity. The course concludes with a detailed discussion on blood flow in channels, the implications of Hagen Poiseuille law in the cardiovascular system, and an introduction to different types of viscometers.
