This learning track covers a comprehensive understanding of electrical machines, their principles, modeling, and analysis. It starts with the basic concepts of magnetic fields and circuits, exploring the generation of magnetic fields in electrical machines, the role of iron, and the concept of inductance. The track then delves into electromechanical motion systems, focusing on singly excited linear systems, field energy, and equilibrium points. It further explores inductance in constant air gap machines, salient pole machines, and distributed windings, discussing the significance of the magnetic field, flux density distribution, and the process of machine assembly. The track also covers the understanding of Direct Current (DC) machines and their models, small signal models, and their application in control system applications. It then moves on to the transformations of reference frames in induction machines, steady state and dynamic modeling of electrical machines, and the comprehensive modeling of salient pole synchronous machines. The track concludes with the study of salient pole synchronous machine reactances and the performance of salient pole alternators under a sudden three-phase short circuit.
