This Application Best Practice (ABP) will introduce you to acoustic Impedance and applications, the modeling approach and simulation setup. The Impedance for acoustic wave can be from soft walls, Flow BC’s or from nonuniformity within the fluid, for example, combustion. In most cases, Impedance is dependent on Frequency, Flow and Soft wall Surface properties. This ABP will demonstrate a procedure to model soft-wall impedance boundary condition.
Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the principles of acoustic impedance and its application in mufflers, liners, and aeroacoustic systems.
- Configure acoustic impedance boundary conditions and reflection coefficient models in Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software.
- Set up transient acoustic simulations with wave forcing, non-reflecting boundaries, and impedance surfaces.
- Import, process, and apply experimental impedance data for acoustic liner modeling.
- Analyze Sound Pressure Level (SPL) distributions and evaluate noise attenuation performance across different flow conditions and frequencies.
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2022R2 release.
