Mesh Generation for the Simplified Heat Exchanger using Multizone Meshing Approach (Workshop)
1-2 HOURS
To create a pure hex mesh for complicated geometries, we may need to manually de-construct or slice the geometry into separate bodies. A multizonal meshing approach allows you to create a pure hex mesh throughout all regions by automatically deconstructing the geometry into separate bodies, hence improving overall mesh quality. The focus of this workshop is on learning how to create a multizone mesh using Watertight Geometry Workflow in Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software.
In general, the multizone meshing is equivalent to a mesh generation technique known as sweeping, where a mesh is created by moving or sweeping along a specific direction, frequently involving multiple bodies. To generate the mesh, the technique relies on defining source and target faces that are perpendicular or orthogonal to the sweep direction. These source and target faces are then utilized to create hexahedra or hexahedra-dominant meshes. In this workshop, using a simplified heat exchanger geometry model, we will learn how to set up and create multizone meshes.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Set up the Describe Geometry task to enable multizone meshing.
- Use the Add Multizone Controls task to add and modify multizone regions and multizone edge controls.
- Create the multizone mesh using the Generate Multizone Mesh task.
- Create conformal and non-conformal interfaces between multizone meshed regions and other regions of the CAD model.
