NPTEL

width=This course covers the comprehensive study of macromechanical analysis of laminates and the classical lamination theory. It starts with the basic understanding of laminates, their formation, and their significance in overcoming the limitations of lamina. The course then delves into the stress-strain behavior of a lamina, the control of direction-dependent properties, and the significance of fiber orientation and volume fraction. It further discusses the concept of symmetric and hybrid laminates, and the standard way of designating a laminate. The course also provides an in-depth understanding of Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) and its application in analyzing laminates. It explains the significance of each term in the ABBD matrix, which defines the characteristics of a laminate. The course concludes with a brief discussion on how CLT is used to determine the safety or failure of each layer in a laminate by applying appropriate failure theories.
