width=This course covers the comprehensive understanding of lubrication theory and its applications in various mechanical systems. It begins with the analysis of fluid flow in thin layers, such as in a bearing of a shaft, and the concept of creeping flow. The course then delves into the principles of lubrication, its role in reducing friction and wear, and the classification of fluid film lubrication. It further simplifies the governing equations for these lubricants and derives the Reynolds equation for lubrication. The course also includes the analysis of a one-dimensional slider bearing and the process of calculating the velocity distribution, volumetric flow rate, and pressure distribution inside the slider bearing. Lastly, it covers the concepts of journal bearing and piston ring lubrication, explaining the principles of fluid flow between surfaces and the impact of load conditions.
