Loss Calculations in Induction Machines

FREE

1-2 HOURS

NPTEL

This course covers the comprehensive understanding of loss calculations in induction machines. It starts with an exploration of the components of loss in an induction machine, such as copper losses, core losses, and mechanical losses. For instance, this course covers how to calculate these losses using specific equations and how to determine the output power and efficiency of a machine. The course also highlights the impact of temperature variation on the resistance of a machine and its effect on stator copper loss. Furthermore, the course delves into the calculation of iron loss in different parts of an induction machine using two distinct methods. The second part of the course focuses on mechanical losses, including bearing and windage losses, and their influencing factors. This course also covers how to calculate bearing losses, factors contributing to windage losses, and stray load losses based on the machine's rating. The course concludes with the calculation of the machine's efficiency, output power, torque, and the power and torque density of the induction machine.
