This course covers the comprehensive understanding of hygrothermal properties and elasticity in materials. It delves into the micromechanics of lamina, focusing on the determination of stiffness, strength parameters, and elastic modules of fiber composites using micromechanical models. For instance, the course explains how the coefficient of thermal expansion of a fiber-reinforced polymer matrix lamina in the longitudinal direction is less compared to that in the transverse direction due to the restraining effect of the fiber. It also discusses the role of the matrix in the longitudinal strength of Lamina and how the strength of fibers embedded into a matrix is almost twice that of dry fibers. The course further explores the elasticity approach to explain the tensile longitudinal tensile strength and longitudinal compression strength of a lamina.
