Getting Started with User Defined Functions (UDFs) in Ansys Fluent Software
4-6 HOURS
User-defined functions (UDFs) allow you to customize Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software and can significantly enhance its capabilities. In this course you will learn the basics of UDF, when you should use them and how to compose, compile and hook your own UDF in Ansys Fluent software.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the basic structure of UDFs .
- Write UDFs for custom boundary conditions, source terms and material properties.
- Hook your own UDF in Ansys Fluent software.
- Discuss the different kinds of macros used to access solver variables.
Prerequisites:
- Completion of “Ansys Fluent Getting Started: Basics” course is required.
- Experience with Ansys Fluent software is strongly recommended.
- Completion of the “Ansys Fluent Expressions Language” course is highly recommended. This course will give you a clear picture of customization tasks that can be easily accomplished with Expressions, without the need for deep programming knowledge and writing your own UDF.
- Some prior experience with a programming language, preferably a C-based language is essential. The introduction to C itself is very firm during this course. The focus is on the usage of Ansys Fluent macros embedded in a C program. UDFs are written in C90.
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2024R1 release.
