In this course, the focus is on understanding the Generate the Surface Mesh task of the Ansys Fluent Meshing Watertight Geometry Workflow. The foundation for a good-quality volume mesh is laid by a good-quality surface mesh. Through the seven lessons that make up this course, you will be taken through the various aspects of generating a high-quality surface mesh. In the first lesson, we will look at how to choose the appropriate values for the Maximum Size, Minimum Size, and Growth Rate inputs in the task and their influence on the surface mesh. Next, we will learn about the global and local size control methods with a primary focus on curvature and proximity size functions. The Watertight Geometry Workflow also allows you to import a surface mesh, which is a useful feature when the underlying computer-aided design (CAD) geometry is unavailable. For such cases, we will discuss the options available while importing a pre-existing surface mesh and learn how to re-mesh some boundaries if required. We will also look at how to add volume mesh refinement in specific regions of interest using the Body of Influence option. In a two-part series on periodic boundaries, we will learn about the different types of periodic boundaries, why and when to use them in simulations, how to set them up, and the influence of different options in Set Up Periodic Boundaries task on the mesh. Next, we will explore the Add Linear Mesh Pattern option that allows us to mesh geometries with repeating linear patterns without having to create the patterns in the original CAD geometry. Here, we will also touch upon how to prepare the CAD geometry to facilitate the creation of linear mesh patterns. Finally, we will identify ways to improve the surface mesh quality, either by using the Improve the Surface Mesh task or by adding local sizing where needed.
A course completion badge allows you to showcase your success. We partner with the Credly Acclaim platform, and digital badges can be used in email signatures, digital resumes and social media sites. The digital image contains verified metadata that describes your participation in our course and the topics and skills that were covered. This badge is for successfully completing the Generate the Surface Mesh course.
