Fluidized Bed Reactors (ABP)

This Application Best Practice (ABP) will provide a comprehensive guideline for modeling flexible valves using Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software and Ansys Mechanical™ structural finite element analysis software. This APB will cover various aspects such as hyperelastic materials, prestressing, coupling stability, valve closure, and dynamic meshing. The aim is to make solving complex fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems in a more practical and straightforward way.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Understand the challenges associated with modeling flexible valves, including non-linear materials, mechanical convergence issues, prestressed solids, coupling stability, fluid gap model convergence, and dynamic meshing solver failures.
• Understand the best practices for tackling these challenges, such as starting with simpler models, incrementally adding complexities, and troubleshooting issues on simpler models before tackling the full problem.
• Acquire knowledge about hyperelastic materials, their properties, and how to define and import them into Ansys Mechanical software.
• Understand the concept of prestressing, its importance in valve simulations, and various approaches for prestressing linear-elastic and hyperelastic solids.
• Explore alternate prestressing approaches using Overset technology and learn about its advantages and challenges.
• Know the techniques for achieving coupling stability and convergence stabilization in FSI simulations.
• Understand the complexities of valve closure and how to model it using Mechanical contacts and Fluent Gap Model.
• Gain insights into dynamic meshing challenges and various approaches to address them.
