This presentation is not a substitute for Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) training. It is designed to highlight features and best practices and goes beyond the FSI course, emphasizing specific points and exploring them in greater detail. The focus is on coupling Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software with Ansys Mechanical™ structural finite element analysis software.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand the principles of 1-way FSI methods: Explain the basic concept and workflow of 1-way FSI.
- Identify the pros and cons of 1-way FSI: Evaluate the advantages (e.g., simplicity, reduced computational cost) and disadvantages (e.g., limited accuracy for strongly coupled problems) of using 1-way FSI methods.
- Perform verification steps for 1-way FSI: Describe the steps necessary to verify the accuracy and reliability of 1-way FSI simulations.
- Select appropriate timesteps for 2-way FSI simulations: Determine the criteria for choosing suitable timesteps to ensure stability and accuracy in 2-way FSI.
- Manage coupling iterations effectively: Explain how to optimize the number of coupling iterations to balance computational efficiency and solution accuracy.
- Configure individual solver setups: Set up and configure the fluid and structural solvers to work together efficiently in a 2-way FSI simulation.
- Recognize fluid elements that make simplifying assumptions: Identify the specific fluid elements in Ansys Mechanical that incorporate simplifying assumptions about the fluid behavior.
- Evaluate the impact of simplifying assumptions: Assess how these assumptions affect the accuracy and applicability of the simulation results.
- Apply fluid elements appropriately: Demonstrate the ability to choose and apply the appropriate fluid elements for different types of fluid-structure interaction problems.
Prerequisites:
- Familiarity with the Ansys Fluent software and the FSI with Ansys Mechanical software is required. If you have not taken the course, please do so alongside reviewing this presentation.
