Transient simulations generate a substantial amount of data, which can be overwhelming to manage and analyze. One effective method to reduce this transient data is by extracting Fourier coefficients for quantities of interest. These Fourier coefficients can then be utilized as input for transient simulations in external applications, such as structural analysis in Ansys Mechanical™ structural finite element analysis software.

However, there are current limitations when it comes to time-marching simulations in Ansys CFX® computational fluid dynamics software. Specifically, Fourier coefficients are not defined as variables for these simulations, which means additional settings are required to extract them.

By completing this Application Best Practice, you will gain the skills needed to reduce transient data effectively. You will learn how to define Fourier coefficients using CEL (CFX Expression Language) and how to set up a simulation process to extract these coefficients. This knowledge will enable you to streamline your data management and enhance the accuracy of your simulations.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Reduce the transient data.
  • Understand how to define Fourier coefficients via CEL.
  • Setup a simulation process to extract the Fourier coefficients.

Prerequisites:

  • Getting Started with Ansys CFX Software: Basics
