Obtaining accurate thermal data of e-motors is key to ensure reliability and performance in all drive conditions. Ansys Discovery™ 3D product simulation software and Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software enable an efficient workflow for detailed analysis.
This Application Best Practice (ABP) provides you with the required key concepts for obtaining accurate thermal data for indirect cooled e-machines. It explains the specific physical models required as well as the best practices in the specific context of e-motors.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this Application Best Practice (ABP), you will be able to:
- Understand the end-to-end workflow of e-motor thermal analysis using Ansys Discovery and Ansys Fluent software
- Understand the key aspects and best practices of indirect cooled e-motors such as air-cooled, water jacket, oil jacket and generally single-phase flow to perform e-motor thermal analysis using a Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) model
Prerequisites:
- Ansys Fluent Meshing with Watertight Geometry Workflow
- Ansys Fluent Heat Transfer Modeling
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2024R2 release.
Application Best Practices (ABPs) outline engineering design goals for specific applications and provide guidance for how to achieve those goals using Ansys simulation software. It is important to note that a Geometry File or other Input Files are not always available. ABPs, as opposed to the official training-material workshops/tutorials, are not meant to be a step-by-step instruction document. ABPs are a link between product-based training courses and application specific tutorials, educating on the "how" and "why" of the best modeling approach, highlighting best practices and workflows for a particular application.
