DO‑160 Lightning Strike Modeling and Analysis with Ansys EMC Plus Software (Tutorial)

This tutorial is a part of the learning plan - Getting Started with Ansys EMC Plus Software. This learning plan develops skills in EMC and lightning analysis using Ansys EMC Plus™ electromagnetic interference and compatibility simulation software, MHARNESS, and EMA3D.
This tutorial will demonstrate the Ansys EMC Plus software workflow for a DO-160 style lightning strike simulation in Ansys Discovery software. This workflow includes setting up the problem space, assigning properties, defining probes, and basic post-processing.
A model of a generic cable bundle connecting two boxes will be used to simulate this problem. Voltage and current probes will be placed on cables of interest, and the bundle will be exposed to a Component A lighting strike.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this tutorial, you will be able to:
Configure a DO‑160 Component A lightning strike simulation, including domain and source setup.
- Construct and adjust a multi‑conductor cable harness with shields and conductors.
- Apply correct terminations and place current, voltage, and bulk current probes.
- Mesh and run the full integrated lightning‑effects simulation.
- Post‑process and interpret voltage, current, and bundle‑level results.
