This course introduces a practical workflow for customizing and optimizing electric machine designs using Ansys Motor-CAD® dedicated electric motor design tool for multiphysics simulation and Ansys optiSLang® process integration and design optimization software. You will learn how to extend the default capabilities of Ansys Motor-CAD software by modifying Python scripts to define custom input/output parameters and simulate performance under specific operating conditions.

By integrating the multi-physics simulation capabilities of Ansys Motor-CAD software—including electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analysis—with powerful optimization and sensitivity analysis tools of Ansys optiSLang software, you can explore a wide design space and meet real-world product requirements. This includes optimizing for efficiency, managing thermal constraints, ensuring rotor stiffness at high speeds, and minimizing magnet usage.

The course also presents a case study involving the identification of optimal hysteresis (Kh) and eddy current (Ke) loss factors across multiple operating points, demonstrating how to achieve accurate core loss predictions.

The key objective of this workflow is to minimize the error between:

  • The target impedance curve (e.g., from measurement or reference model).
  • The simulated impedance curve generated from AEDT using parameterized R, L, and C.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Understand the core functionalities of Ansys Motor-CAD software and Ansys optiSLang software for electric machine design.
  • Modify Python scripts to define custom simulation parameters and operating conditions beyond the default UI.
  • Use Ansys optiSLang software to perform Design of Experiments (DOE), sensitivity analysis, and multi-objective optimization.
  • Identify optimal values for core loss factors (Kh and Ke) across multiple operating points.
